SYNC Series [link]
-Planetary Memories- "Fox and Apple" It had been thousands of years after human's leaving Earth into the deep space. Cloud was sent back to earth to investigate the environment on Earth. Today he found some apple on the tree, which only appeared in the dictionary. They tasted good. Sitting on the branch eating, Cloud began to think why people left their home planet? Maybe his question will be answered in his journey. *** I planned to make Cloud's story as a combination of illustration and a short piece of novel. Other parts of SYNC will also be made in different way. I must thank for victortky Made with Adobe Photoshop and its default brushset on one or two layers. Comments
Oh, I love your coloring so much~ <333 this really is gorgeous. You aced the lighting so well~ Umm... fer crits... Some of the brush strokes on the ear patterns look a bit messy, but... that took awhile to find. XD;;; Really, I can't find much of anything, so, great job!~

and your backgrounds *-* i'd love to make bg so nice as the yours x3 -- [ Peace begins with a smile ] I'm Dianamon in dA's Digimon Crew. Yes, the floaty hands are gone! I can love Cloud's design fully again! The tails, all the swirly details, the eating... Ah, so they can eat! I wonder now if this is only for taste or if it serves a practical purpose.
I notice the story changes, and I think they too are a positive direction for SYNC. It makes the story easier for many people to understand, and adds another layer of alienation from the planet. Ah, I moved into a bigger apartment, so my walls look a little bare. And I was just waiting for a new SYNC print... |

First of all! this is a really successful image. The color palette is pleasant, and you distinguish foreground and background elements very successfully even though you did not render objects as fully three-dimensional.
Your subject matter has a very broad appeal (as evidenced by the thousand-plus favorites you have on this image as I type). If I had to point out anything to pick on, I would have to mention
The ears.
The shapes are great, but the right ear is turned all the way around backwards. Is there something I am misunderstanding about the structure of this animal's ears, or is this stylization that does not work well in an image that implies three dimensions? If this was just line art, I doubt I would have even noticed because it would read very clearly as a symbol instead of a possible error of judgment.
Design.
Some aspects of the character's design are confusing. I do not understand how the knee and the decoration on the knees (are these part of the body, or is this a garment) would work if the creature were standing. It's very possible that I only think that because I have not seen the character in a standing position.
The tail.
I see you reflected the colors of the foliage onto the creature's tail, which is great. It falls flat in comparison to the rest of the figure, however. The tail does not appear to recede into the background, making it look a bit like a cardboard cutout or fan behind the figure.
Your painting technique is so nice and smooth! I have a lot of respect for it.
